Radius-TWC acquires ‘The Expatriate’: AFM title stars Aaron Eckhart, Olga Kurylenko

Radius-TWC has acquired domestic distribution rights to “The Expatriate” starring Aaron Eckhart.

Directed by Philipp Stolzl from Arash Amel’s script, pic centers on an ex-CIA agent and his daughter on the run when his employers mark them both for termination as part of a wide-reaching international conspiracy.

Olga Kurylenko and Liana Liberato also star with Howard Meltzer, Jonathan Vanger, Claude Lenger and Karl Richards producing. Harry Winer, Judy and Michael Cairo are exec producing.

International sales are still ongoing through Essential Media. A 2012 release date is likely.

“It’s ‘Bourne’ meets ‘Taken’ with Aaron Eckhart at his very best,” said Radius-TWC co-president Tom Quinn. “It’s perfect for us … I’m really excited about it and look forward to premiering it this fall.”

Quinn and Radius-TWC co-prexy Jason Janego brokered the deal on behalf of the label. CAA repped domestic rights on behalf of Informant Media, Smash Media Films and Essential Entertainment.

Radius-TWC, a distribution entity within The Weinstein Company, launched last year with an initial focus on VOD and emerging platforms. While the label has not yet decided on “Expatriate’s” rollout plan, pic will get both a theatrical and digital release.

Eckhart lives life in the slow lane

AARON Eckhart, a Hollywood heart-throb, describes himself as “a boring old man”.

The star guest at yesterday’s Grand Prix was happy to blend in with the crowd and admitted he’s usually in bed by 9pm.

“In fact I’m the opposite (of a party boy), I’m a boring old man,” The Dark Knight actor, 44, said.

“That was in another lifetime of mine, I don’t do that anymore. I’ve got to get my rest.”

Unlike last year’s guest, Gossip Girl star Ed Westwick, “speed nut” Eckhart dressed down at the track and was seen happily chatting with fans. He has been in town for two months filming thriller I, Frankenstein alongside Miranda Otto, Yvonne Strahovski and Bill Nighy.

Eckhart said he had enjoyed “exploring” Melbourne.

“Now I’ve just discovered St Kilda and the beach and the bay towards Frankston. It’s a great alternative, if you have the choice to make a film, Sydney and Melbourne is top of the list.”

Eckhart, a huge F1 fan, met Mark Webber earlier in the week.

He will next play Beach Boy Dennis Wilson in a biopic called The Drummer.

I, Frankenstein, starring Aaron Eckhart and Bill Nighy, set to roll

by Brendan Swift

Local horror film I, Frankenstein is set to begin its 10-week shoot in Victoria next week.

The story, based on a graphic novel by Kevin Grevioux which picks up where Mary Shelley’s classic novel finishes, follows Dr. Frankenstein’s creature (Aaron Eckhart) into a present day, gothic metropolis, where he is drawn into a power struggle between two immortal clans.

The film, which stars Eckhart (The Dark Knight), Bill Nighy (Underworld), Miranda Otto (South Solitary), Yvonne Strahovski (Killer Elite) and Socratis Otto (X-Men Origins: Wolverine), will begin production on February 27.

I, Frankenstein writer/director Stuart Beattie said in a statement: “Mary Shelley’s story is about the creation of the first human being. I, Frankenstein is the story about that being becoming human.”

The film is being produced by US-based Lakeshore Entertainment and Australia’s Hopscotch Features. The film is expected to be released in late-2012.

The Two Faces of Aaron Eckhart: Actor—And Photojournalist

Aaron Eckhart is known to audiences worldwide as Harvey “Two Face” Dent, Batman’s acid-faced nemesis in Dark Knight Returns. But Eckhart has a whole other side: He’s a photography obsessive who recently shot a series of pictures for the humanitarian medical aid organization AmeriCares. Here, Eckhart shares his favorite images from a recent tour of medical facilities in the Dominican Republic.

“Like honest acting, there’s nothing better than an honest picture,” says Aaron Eckhart. “And everyone in these photos are all real people and real life—that’s why I cherish these images.”

Eckhart recently took a trip to the Dominican Republic on behalf of AmeriCares, a US-based humanitarian aid organization that specializes in the distribution of medical supplies and quality treatment in disaster areas. “I found out about them through Jennifer Aniston,” Eckhart recalls. “She was doing a fundraiser and I happened to be in the building. They told me what they did and I said, ‘What do you need me to do? I’ll go wherever you send me, and I’ll take pictures and maybe do a show or magazines–maybe make a book someday over the course of the year–whatever you need me to do.”

Eckhart’s Dominican Republic images were all taken in the summer of 2011, over three days in various hospitals and clinics. “We visited cancer units, HIV units, children’s units and old folks homes,” Eckhart says. “These images may look sad or grim to some people, but they’re not. When I was there, I saw happiness and hope. I think these images reflect reality of people’s lives, but what’s captured is all beautiful to me.”

And, apparently, eye-pleasing to fellow photography buffs. Several of these Dominican Republic images were auctioned off to the public by AmeriCares for thousands of dollars apiece. (“Somebody took pity on me,” says Eckhart.)

In the slideshow above, Eckhart takes us through his selection of favorite photographs—and the compelling stories behind them.

Stars’ best Golden Globe moments

Aaron Eckhart

“I had an epiphany at the Golden Globes – during the last time I went (2009). I was sitting there at the balustrade looking over this beautiful hall – the dining room. Everybody was there… Johnny (Depp) and Brad (Pitt), Angelina (Jolie), all the guys, (Steven) Spielberg… I looked at them and I thought, this will be my family for the next 20, 30 years. It has been my family for the last 10, 15 years. These are the people I’m going to grow old with. I felt like… I’d never had that thought before.”
